In vitro studies of Chlamydia trachomatis susceptibility and resistance to rifampin and rifabutin.

چکیده
Although rapid emergence of antibiotic-resistant mutants of Chlamydia trachomatis occurs when the organism is grown in subinhibitory concentrations of rifampin, no such mutants could be demonstrated when the organism was propagated under the same conditions in subinhibitory levels of the related drug rifabutin.

Effects of azithromycin and rifampin on Chlamydia trachomatis infection in vitro.
An in vitro cell culture model was used to investigate the long-term effects of azithromycin, rifampin, and the combination of azithromycin and rifampin on Chlamydia trachomatis infection. Although standard in vitro susceptibility testing indicated efficient inhibition by azithromycin, prolonged treatment did not reveal a clear elimination of chlamydia from host cells. Chlamydia were temporaril...
متن کاملRifampin-resistant RNA polymerase mutants of Chlamydia trachomatis remain susceptible to the ansamycin rifalazil.
Stable, homotypic mutants of Chlamydia trachomatis for which MICs of rifampin and rifalazil are elevated were isolated by serial passage at sub-MIC concentrations of these compounds. An alternative approach, in which Chlamydia cells were incubated and subsequently passaged three times, all in the presence of the selective agent at concentrations above the MIC, appeared to be a more effective me...
متن کاملEmergence of resistance to rifampin and rifalazil in Chlamydophila pneumoniae and Chlamydia trachomatis.
Although rifamycins have excellent activity against Chlamydophila pneumoniae and Chlamydia trachomatis in vitro, concerns about the possible development of resistance during therapy have discouraged their use for treatment of chlamydial infections. Rifalazil, a new semisynthetic rifamycin with a long half-life, is the most active antimicrobial against C. pneumoniae and C. trachomatis in vitro, ...
متن کاملP-41: Association Study of MICA*008 Gene Polymorphism with Chlamydia Trachomatis Infection in Infertile Men Reffer to Royan Institute
Background: Chlamydia trachomatis(CT) is an obligate intracellular bacteria, requires living cells to replicate itself. CT infection can remain up to 4 years in the couple and affect their fertility. The relationship between CT and infertility is very important because most patients are asymptomatic and untreated. After infection with CT, NK activation signals begin through interactions of its ...
متن کاملMolecular mechanisms of Chlamydia trachomatis resistance to antimicrobial drugs.
Chlamydia trachomatis (C. trachomatis) is a leading cause of bacterial sexually transmitted infections in developed and undeveloped countries, and therefore a global public health issue. In an era of increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotics, resistance has been an exceedingly rare phenomenon in C. trachomatis; however, clinical treatment failures attributed to multidrug-resistant C. trach...
